Inclusive Education at Ignite
Education transforms lives and through their attendance at inclusive schools, students of determination can realize their potential and obtain the knowledge and skills to thrive as adults. The success of inclusive schooling at Ignite is dependent upon all of us as the school community holding positive views around the potential of all students.
Our students who are fully ‘included’ in our school have the benefit of being educated in a welcoming environment where diversity is valued and learning preferences are identified, understood and accommodated. Consequently, these students can engage in meaningful, challenging and relevant learning experiences alongside peers of the same age.
Information and accommodations for individual needs
Throughout Ignite School we celebrate a variety of individual needs from Autism Syndrome Disorder to specific learning challenges. Our classrooms are enriched by students who bring a diverse set of skills and competencies and who inspire each other and teachers every day.
Here you will find some information on these individual needs, what they look like and how our teachers accommodate them in the classroom.
English as an Additional Language (EAL)
Ignite School is proud to offer an English as an Additional Language (EAL) program designed to support students who are English language learners (ELLs). Guided by the renowned World Class Instructional Design and Assessment (WIDA) program, we ensure a comprehensive approach to identifying and testing ELLs. WIDA not only assesses language proficiency but also provides a roadmap for personalized instruction that caters to the unique needs of each student.
Our commitment to student success extends beyond assessment. The EAL program seamlessly integrates language development strategies into the classroom with collaborative efforts between EAL specialists and classroom teachers. This collaborative approach ensures that language support becomes an integral part of every student’s learning experience. Additionally, when necessary, our EAL program conducts pullout sessions, providing focused and personalized language instruction to small groups of students. To learn more about how Ignite School’s EAL program nurtures language learning and academic achievement please contact the school’s EAL Coordinator.
Gifted & Talented (GT)
Ignite School’s goals for gifted and talented students are adapted from the USA National Association for Gifted Children and is aligned to the Ministry of Education philosophy, vision, and mission for students with special educational needs in the UAE.
- Students are identified for GT services through external assessment data such as CAT4 and MAP as well as teacher recommendations based on internal academic and arts performance.
- GT teaching methods strengthen students’ knowledge and skills by requiring investigations, and responses to authentic, engaging, and complex questions, problems, and or challenges.
- GT students are ensured an array of learning opportunities where they work independently and in groups.
