Our Flag Day celebration was a tremendous success. The students and staff were all dressed in their best flag colors and patriotic wear. Our Arabic and Islamic teachers produced a wonderful program full of traditional performances and the children did a tremendous job. Our generous parents (without being asked) brought in flags, food, and goodies…their efforts combined with those of our planning team…led to a very successful event. Everything was superb!
My grandmother had a saying as I grew up. In speaking about seasons, she would say, they “came in like a lion but went out like a lamb”. Holidays are a lot like that too. There is so much fuss as you prepare, but when it’s over…it’s just over. Well, that wasn’t quite the case with Flag Day…it is still roaring like a lion. Just when I thought it was over…I’ve learned that I ONLY have one month to gear up for National Day…and I’d better be ready (another lesson by a student, teaching me something I didn’t know). Well…I’ve learned…and we’re on it. Our Ignite School teachers and staff are learning, appreciating, demonstrating and celebrating UAE pride, in everything we do. UAE pride is visible in our corridors, our classrooms, our canteen, our sports hall and in our instructional lessons. Our families are simply magnificent. They’ve become active and engaged members of our school community, while supporting our efforts inside and outside the classrooms. As we gear up for the National Day…we will remain focused on the history and purpose of the day as well as the learning that results.
